La Bohème features local talent

Commemorating the centenary of Puccini’s death, Opera Australia presented its production of La Bohème at the Ulumbarra Theatre on the 3rd August, 2024. It is the story of a turbulent and tragic love affair between young poet Rodolfo and seamstress Mimi and regarded as one of the most popular operas ever written. The Ulumbarra Foundation, through its generous donors, sponsored the Bendigo-based choir and chorus leader Steph McCorkelle for this performance.

“The children did such a fantastic job, we loved having them be part of our production,” said Opera Australia Children’s Coordinator Holly Neil.

The opera was directed by the award-winning Dean Bryant who breathed fresh life into Puccini’s masterpiece. The performance in Bendigo was part of a journey through Victoria and New South Wales, including stops in Dandenong, Horsham, and Warrnambool.
