Bendigo’s rich cultural heritage and wonderful theatres deserve a vibrant, diverse and sustainable local performing arts scene. You don’t need to go to Melbourne to experience spellbinding performances at the theatre. And you don’t need to leave Greater Bendigo to realise your talent and perform on the stage!
The Ulumbarra Foundation’s Future 50 initiative is scaling up support for local performing arts organisations who are struggling to survive in today’s tough economic environment – thanks to our wonderful supporters. And we want to hear your voice to help us communicate the importance of a vibrant performing arts scene in the region!

‘Having spent my life in theatres, I am so proud that my hometown has a world-class performing arts venue right on its doorstep. From its extraordinary transformation to the breadth and depth of talent that take to its stage, Ulumbarra Theatre is a birth place of dreams for future generations of performers and a space for strangers to connect, united in our passion for the arts.’
I was at Ganesh Versus the third Reich at Ulumbarra theatre in Bendigo and stunned by the quality of the performance and theatre in a regional town in Victoria. A beautifully adapted building from the old gaol – features of which are retained in the outer walls to great effect.
What an outstandingly beautiful venue. I attended a gig featuring local performers which was my first time at this theatre. The acoustics are excellent, seating spaced well and oh, so comfortable. The bar and cafe area are excellent and there’s plenty of room to move about in the corridors. Amazing experience!
What an outstandingly beautiful venue. I attended a Daryl Braithwaite gig which was my first time at this theatre. The acoustics are excellent, seating spaced well and oh, so comfortable. The bar and cafe area are excellent and there’s plenty of room to move about in the corridors. To think this was once a gaol is truly amazing.
