Community Connections program
The Community Connections program provides a quality performing arts experience to individuals who may not have otherwise been able to attend a performance, due to social or economic disadvantage, or distance.
The Ulumbarra Foundation’s works with community groups to ensure everyone has an opportunity to experience the performing arts, whatever their circumstances. The program has created opportunities for migrants, refugees, people with disabilities and first nations people to experience the joys of the performing arts. It also creates opportunities for families to attend free cushion concerts.
The Community Connection program includes Cushion Concerts at the Capital Theatre, supported by our wonderful donor Helen Gobbe, which connects our littlest people with wonderful arts experiences. Recent highlights included:
- a visit from members of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, teaching pre-schoolers about music rhythms, various instruments and how to tell a story with music.
- the Karen families attended Arena Theatre’s Robot Song, and the Flying Fruit Fly Circus, thanks to the assistance of Bendigo Community Health Services
- training for the Children’s Choir to perform in Opera Australia’s La Boheme, which was also attended by their families
