13 Jun How Alice Topp aims to inspire young dancers
After 17 years touring the world with The Australian Ballet, Bendigo-born Alice Topp told the Bendigo Advertiser she wants to inspire the next generation through the Ulumbarra Foundation’s mentor program.
Topp says she was the product of incredible mentors and owed her success to experienced industry professionals who generously guided her career, including the transition from a dancer to choreographer.
“I didn’t know anything other than dance … I didn’t know how to collaborate with technical staff, lighting design and costume design, let alone how to approach the choreographic process,” she said.
“I was very lucky to be able to shadow professionals (and) to be mentored by them.”
Topp said the mentoring program covers a wide range of roles in the performing arts sector from performing on stage to backstage jobs such as a stage manager, or lighting designer. For more information click here.
