Grand piano to lift Bendigo’s concert performances

The Ulumbarra Foundation proudly kicked off Bendigo Fine Music’s campaign for The People’s Piano with a $5,000 grant toward a new grand piano—an investment that will help transform the city’s musical life for years to come.

At the heart of the campaign is the Yamaha C7X grand piano, which delivers a sound and presence close to a full concert grand, making it ideal for Bendigo’s performance spaces.

“The piano will help local choirs, orchestras and chamber groups focus on music, not the logistics of hiring expensive instruments from Melbourne,” said Bendigo Fine Music Chair Thomas Heywood.

People’s Piano will complement the purchase of a Yamaha CFIIIS Concert Grand by the Bendigo Symphony Orchestra (BSO); thanks to the support of many Ulumbarra Foundation donors. The piano, originally owned by James Morrison (pictured), is now housed in the Ulumbarra Theatre and represents a step change in Bendigo’s musical infrastructure.

As a BSO partner, the Ulumbarra Foundation recently contributed a $5,000 grant towards the maintenance of the new piano; ensuring its exceptional tonal warmth and clarity is maintained during performances.
