Resonance String Orchestra is hosting a Big String Day in Castlemaine on Saturday 29 March 9am- 1pm at Castlemaine Secondary College for students with established beginner skills.

The Ulumbarra Foundation is supporting the Big String Day, thanks to its generous donors. Big String Day features a morning of music and team-building games, whole orchestra sessions and instrument-based tutorials led by Resonance Co-Artistic Director Emma Wade and Maryborough Education Performing Arts Coordinator Sarina Walter. Co-Artistic Director Heather Cummins and tutors Sam Goble, Lizzy Welsh and Charlotte Ryssenbeek will take tutorials, mentoring and ensure everyone has a great time!

Big String Day is open to students with established beginner skills to Grade 2 AMEB standard from Macedon Ranges, Mount Alexander, and neighbouring shires and is made possible by financial support from the Ulumbarra Foundation’s ‘Performing Arts Power Up’ Grants. Beginner skills include the ability to bow basic rhythms and use the first three fingers of the left hand.

Resonance has been running a high quality, super supportive all ages string orchestra program for beginners to advanced players in Central Victoria (Castlemaine and Woodend) for over 15 years and is renowned for the quality of its work and the fulfilling experience players have.

Big String Day will finish with a short performance for families and a Q&A. Students can attend Big String Day as a one-off experience, or join up for our year-long Apprenti Strings program after the event.
