Big plans to spread more joy in Bendigo

Thanks to the support of the Ulumbara Foundation’s donors, the 2024 Bendigo Comedy Festival played at new venues around Bendigo in October, broadening access to the performing arts for more people and more local acts.

Festival producer and comedian Luke Morris said the Performing Arts Power-up grant allowed the Comedy Festival to realise its plans for sustainable growth in Bendigo.

“It allowed us to specifically fund using the Engine Room Theatre, and host local artists who are new and emerging to perform on a real stage – not a pub floor – and for the community to be inspired by seeing touring acts that would otherwise not afford to come to Bendigo,” said Luke.

“It was an amazing week of the festival, and we’ll be back to do it again next year, to give Bendigo more reasons to laugh and enjoy the city, and indeed be creative and to look on the bright side of life.”
