A growing Comedy Festival takes centre stage in Bendigo

In October 2024, the Bendigo Comedy Festival brought joy to over 1,200 people over 22 spectacular shows. Featuring a mix of national touring acts and burgeoning local talent, this festival is solidifying Bendigo’s place on the comedy map.

Lead Producer Luke Morris is spearheading the festival’s expansion with support from the Ulumbarra Foundation, which provided a grant to underwrite plans for more shows.

“Overall it was a great festival, with the funding allowing us to (book more acts) to The Engine Room and Bendigo Bank Theatre, as well as branching out for the first time to multiple sites around Bendigo,” said Luke.

The festival created opportunities for local comedy writers, performers, and producers, employed seven people, and spread laughter throughout the city.”

Established in 2018, the Bendigo Comedy Festival has grown into an annual highlight. The 2024 event featured an opening Gala, nightly gigs, educational sessions, a movie night, live podcast recordings, and a free family show.

“A lasting impact and positive growth are our key goals,” shared Luke, who dreams of hosting future events at the Ulumbarra Theatre. With each year, the festival continues to elevate Bendigo’s vibrant cultural scene.
