In April 2015 the Ulumbarra Theatre rose from the walls of the historic Sandhurst Gaol. As one of the largest venues in regional Australia, boasting 953 seats and a fully equipped fly tower, the theatre hosts local, national and international performers..
The Ulumbarra Foundation was created because we wanted to support local performing arts organisations and performing artists who have fewer resources and opportunities than those in the big city. Many local performing arts organisations are doing it tough. So, as we celebrate 10 years of the Ulumbarra Theatre, we need to do more.

Why Future 50 is important
Despite Bendigo’s rich cultural heritage, wonderful theatres and performing arts groups, funding constraints and fewer opportunities in regional Australia hinder the growth and vibrancy of the performing arts. The Ulumbarra Foundation is on a mission to overcome this barrier!
Named to recognise Bendigo’s new world-class Ulumbarra Theatre, the Foundation launched its Founding 50 campaign in 2016 to create vital opportunities for Greater Bendigo’s performing arts community and audiences.
As we celebrate the Ulumbarra Theatre’s 10th Anniversary in 2025, we need to scale up support for many local performing arts organisations who are struggling to survive in today’s tough economic environment. Another 50 visionary supporters are urgently needed to help us create new partnerships and secure a bright future for our performing arts community.

With your help, the Future 50 campaign will create significant long-term benefits. Imagine the magic: like the Power-up grant that supported David Gagliardi Pty Ltd’s inaugural major work; bringing together 13 organisations and 29 donors, strengthening our creative community.
